Discipline
A respectful, structured environment guided by a clear code of conduct — nurturing responsibility, integrity and character in every student.
Discipline at St. Mary’s Orthodox School is not about punishment — it is about building character. We believe that a well-ordered school community allows every student to thrive, feel safe and develop the self-regulation that will serve them throughout life. Our code of conduct is upheld by students, staff and parents together.
Punctuality & Attendance
Students must arrive on time and maintain regular attendance. Habitual lateness or unexplained absence will be reported to parents and may affect promotion.
Uniform & Grooming
The prescribed school uniform must be worn correctly on all school days. Hair must be neatly kept. No fancy accessories, nail polish or jewellery are permitted.
Respectful Communication
Students must address teachers, staff and fellow students with courtesy and respect. Rude language, bullying or harassment of any form is strictly prohibited.
Mobile Phones & Electronic Devices
Mobile phones and personal electronic devices are not permitted during school hours. Any device brought to school must be deposited at the office. Violations will lead to confiscation and parental notice.
Care of School Property
Students must take care of school furniture, equipment, books and premises. Damage caused intentionally will be recovered from the student’s family.
Academic Honesty
Copying, plagiarism, cheating in tests or examinations and submitting others’ work as one’s own are serious offences and will be dealt with strictly.
✓ Students Should
- Carry the school diary every day and get it signed by parents daily
- Complete homework and classwork on time
- Maintain silence in the library and during study periods
- Stand up when a teacher enters the classroom
- Keep the classroom and school premises clean
- Participate respectfully in all assemblies and school events
- Report any bullying or misconduct to a teacher immediately
✕ Students Must Not
- Use or carry mobile phones during school hours
- Bring junk food, tobacco or any prohibited substance
- Engage in any form of bullying, ragging or intimidation
- Leave the school premises without written permission
- Deface or damage school property or textbooks
- Wear any jewellery, apply nail polish or use makeup
- Engage in any form of academic dishonesty or cheating
Verbal Warning
A first offence is met with a verbal counselling by the class teacher or subject teacher, noting the incident in the register.
Written Notice to Parents
Repeat or serious offences are communicated in writing to parents via the school diary or a formal letter from the Principal.
Parent–Teacher Meeting
Parents are called for a meeting with the class teacher and/or Principal to discuss the student’s behaviour and agree on a corrective plan.
Suspension / Expulsion
Grave misconduct — including violence, substance use, moral turpitude or repeated defiance — may result in suspension or, in extreme cases, expulsion from the school.
